Effect of Gender Discrimination in Family (Expository Essay)

Have you ever wondered why gender discrimination occured in families? Family is a place that gives us happiness, but not all family members can feel it. When a daughter is treated differently than a son, they feel neglected and isolated. This action can affect mental health, ruin children's lives, and limit the freedom of daughters.

Various ways in which parents treat their children may result in mental abuse. Being treated as a slave, the daughter is usually asked to do all the house chores while the son can rest at home. Women will suffer from mental abuse if this mindset is not eradicated from people's minds. Mental abuse keeps increasing through the years, and most of them had commit suicide. The National Library of Medicine in Malaysia said that the number of patients increased from 28.5 million to 32.6 million from 2010 to 2020. In order to reduce this figure, people should bear in mind that they need to treat every gender equally. Thus, this negative thought must leave their heads.

In addition, children's futures will be destroyed as sons are always given more opportunities to further their education. Whereas women are expected to stay at home and learn to cook. This causes the daughter to be an uneducated person and cannot get a better job in future. They will also be jealous and try to do something bad in order to make their parents hate their male siblings. The scenario will keep running and disturbing their minds, and they will be sad all the time. What's worse, the relationship between the daughters and sons will get worsen day by day. As a result, daughter will suffer in the future .

Last but not least, daughters get less freedom in their life. Parents always give permission for boys to go out but not for girls. However, girls also need their own time to hang out with their friends, but parents will always ask girls to stay at home and say that it is bad for girls to spend their time outside. This is clearly not fair as girls want to go out and have fun with their friends too. Yet, it is only boys who can enjoy themselves wherever and whenever they want. If something bad happens to them, they are rarely blamed for their actions, whereas if their daughters make a mistake, they must bear the consequences, and men will not take the price.

In a nutshell, sons and daughters need to be treated equally as various impacts they need to face in order to survive. We need to destroy the earliest mindset which affects women's lives and treat everyone equally.
