Our Stigma Breaker (nabil)

Aqil is a teacher in a school in the city. He is a teacher who is famous for his nature that is rich in pure values. He has helped a lot of students who need help, wether in terms of money or not. Because of that, he became the most beloved teacher at that school. Not only with the students, the teachers are also happy with his behavior. He cares deeply about the people around him.

A few months ago, Aqil was ordered to transfer to a new school located outside the city. Teachers and students could not accept the truth the person they adore the most would no longer in the same school with them. The new school is very different from the old school. The number of students is also much less than the old school. He also noticed that there were very few male students in the school. He felt strange why the majority were only female students.

Aqil decided to study why this happened and have asked some teachers and villagers about the boys in the village. As a result of the interviews there, he found that most stated that boys are more encouraged to work to help support the family while girls can continue to go to school. Moreover, there is also a stigma that thinks girls are smarter than boys causing only girls to be allowed to go to school in order to reduce family expenses.

Aqil have found the issue of gender inequality is happended in that villages. Boys should not be discriminated even more so in education. He suggested the school to hold an awareness campaign on this issue. He has explained to parents and villagers to treat boys and girls equally in education. Boys cannot be left out of school and asked to work to support the family. He has also corrected the stigma that both boys and girls have the same level of intelligence and can excel if educated properly.

Finally, the number of boy students had increased gradually. Parents started to send their son to school to ensure they also get proper education. Aqil was so glad because all of his hardwork finally paid off. Other teachers were very proud of him as he managed to bring changes towards the villagers community eventhough he just moved in to that school recently. He really hopes that this kind of discriminations will never happen again in the education field.
