Effects of Gender Inequality (nabil)

 

Gender in education issue becoming more prevalent from time to time. Boys and girls receive different treatment at a very young age, right from primary school. They will exposed with different types of toys and games as remains the schools nowadays. Teachers frequently speak in a softer voice to girls than boys shows that gender inequality happened at school. This is happened because of stigma view from generation to generation of the boys and girls. This problem will cause many effect in the future.

The first effect of gender inequality in which is bringing up women who are less active because discrimination happened when female student given less chance to join event at school such as sports day. Male student encouraged to join activity and given many chance and types of activity compared to female which is most of them are only present to give encouragement or to be a helper during that day. With this lack of encouragement and opportunity, it is proven that gender inequality will causing males to be much more active than females.

Furthermore, gender inequality in education that happened in most of the school will cause students to not be able to choose the field they are interested in or the field they want to pursue. This happened because many school has set every student what they will learning depends on gender. For instance, boys will learn about sports science and technical skills and girls will learn about arts and literature. Boys not allowed to choose arts or literature although interested and vice versa. The impact, student will have difficulty to score in that field of study.

Last but not least, girl student are put on the high pedestal to score higher on exam. Teacher at school putting high hopes to girl students to get higher result on exam than the boy students because of the stigma girls are more clever than boys. This stigma will causing teachers to pay less attention to the boy students. This can be proof by teachers always angry when girl students do not complete the assigned schoolwork compared to boy students that the teacher does not pay a mind too much.

To sum it up, the point that have shown prove that we all need to remove the mindset of giving priority to the certain gender in education. If both gender served equally in education it will lead to the success of the school and the students themselves. Discrimination that happended in education only cause many side effects.
