A Patriarchal Husband (Argumentative Essay) / Najwa Nabihah

 

  Patriarchal relating to a system of society or government controlled by men. Patriarchal society means a society where men use their power to satisfy own needs. A patriarchal society often happens in a family which the head of house or the husband believe that women should be the one who does house chores and serve their husband while men shouldn't do anything related to house. This society define the abuse of power which men are the king and women are their servants. However, I strongly believe that men and women are both responsible for managing the house. 

   This is because in household, men and women should work together to make sure everything are in a good state such as financial and chores. Both men and women should do house chores. Women can't be the only one who did all chores because house chores is not a gender role. For instance, men can do any house chores like women did such as washing dishes, doing laundry and cooking. They need to tolerate and help each other regarding chores to keep the house clean and well-managed. 

   Other than that, men shouldn't forbid women from pursuing their career just to make them do all house chores and what make it worse is they doesn’t even bother to lend a hand while giving excuse such as men are tired from working to support the family. This behaviour shows that some husbands treat their wife like a maid. Women can work and get their own money especially looking at the current economy situation and those who finished their studies to pursue their dreams. 

   However, some might agree that men should only working while women need to stay at home to take care everything related to house. They think that man is a leader who has the right to ask wife to do anything especially house chores because the husband has worked hard to provide the family's needs. They think that this is better than men ignoring their responsibility as the head of family. Even so, man who loves their wife shouldn't be a burden to her. A patriarchal husband always asks his wife to do everything for him even the simplest thing. Tolerance is very important in marriage to build a long-lasting and happy life. Doing house chores will not degrade men's dignity but will be more respected by society especially women and be the best example to other men to not discriminate against women in marriage.
